ABOUT US

Caladium Editions was co-founded in 2007 in Champaign, Illinois by artists Molly Briggs and Walter Wilson.  We specialize in small, limited fine art editions by emerging and mid-career contemporary artists.  With our pricing structure based on the hundred dollar print, we position our projects somewhere between the gallery/museum world and zine culture.  This creates not only opportunities for new or younger collectors to access works by influential artists but also for artists to develop innovative or experimental projects that otherwise might not be accommodated by their markets.  Our publication projects are undertaken by invitation.  We also welcome inquiries about contract printing.

The founding of Caladium Editions was inspired by our desire to collaborate with innovative artists and thinkers.  The main print shop is equipped with a cast iron combination press that served Anchor Graphics for many years, as well as several ink jet printers, green acid facilities and plenty of workspace.  We are equipped for all traditional etching processes as well as all the permutations of monotype and a variety of non-traditional and digital approaches.  We have a second press located nearby which is configured for lithography.  We are currently working with artists in both the traditional artists residency context and also long-distance, via mail  and digital links.

Master printer Molly Briggs has 12 yearsexperience as a professional fine art printer and as a university art professor.  Molly received her M.F.A. in printmaking from Northwestern University in 1998 and went on to print professionally at Riverhouse Editions in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Tony Fitzpatricks Big Cat Press in Chicago before taking a position as adjunct assistant professor in studio art at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There she redeveloped the printmaking curriculum and taught printmaking, color theory, drawing and advanced studio seminar for six years.  She also taught printmaking at Northwestern University and at the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative.  She is currently Visiting Assistant Professor in the School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Her work is represented by Zg Gallery in Chicago.

Assistant printer Walter Wilson is also an artist, specializing in drawing and cast metal sculpture.  He currently works as an Exhibition Designer at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Walter received his B.F.A. in sculpture at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and served on the exhibition board of the Riverside Art Center in Riverside, Illinois for six years.  Walter took printmaking instruction at SAIC and has been printing independently for three years.
